So, without further ado, let’s get started!

How Can You Use Continental Electric Espresso Machine? (Step-by-Step Guide)

Using a continental electric espresso machine is effortless when you get the hang of it. But there are many steps to remember, which is quite tricky.

So, keep following this guide to learn how you can use a continental electric espresso maker for various creations. Here we go:

  • Step 1: Filling The Reservoir With Water

This is the first thing you need to do. Fill an empty container with water, and replace it with the machine lid when the reservoir is full.

  • Step 2: Preheat The Espresso Machine

To get the perfect result from your electric espresso machine, let it preheat for about 25 minutes. Then ensure the machine is well-preheated before starting the next step.

  • Step 3: Measuring and Grinding the Beans

Take your grinder because now you have to grind the beans. This is important to be careful about its quantity and consistency.

Take 18 to 21 grams of coffee beans for 2 servings. Basically, after trying one or two times, you shouldn’t follow any tips for the measurement.

  • Step 4: Placing the portafilter

Portafilter is a handled cup component which is essential for the espresso machine to hold the coffee grounds.

You can also put a filter basket into it to get the perfect mixture.

  • Step 5: Rinsing the Portafilter

If you feel like the coffee beans are old and need a shower. Just rinse the portafilter under the tab for a single time. Now give it some time to rest, then go for the next step.

  • Step 6: Tamping the Grounds

To distribute the beans roughly and evenly before tamping, lightly press the portafilter’s side with your fingers.

The secret of perfect tamping is pressing it down straight, and no one wants an uneven finish. Another thing to follow is to ensure you have got a level top until you see the ground stop setting.

When you are done, brush the excess bean powder from the top of the portafilter.

  • Step 7: Pull the First Shot of Espresso

At this point, you need to lock the porta-filter into the group head. Place a glass cup below the spout. Turn on the water that forces the water and compresses the coffee into the porta-filter. Then, pour the coffee into the cup.

The entire process will take 20 to 40 seconds for every pull. Here you are technically done. Now you get the darker, sweeter, and rich consistency. And it looks glorious, doesn’t it?

But you are not done yet, and this is just a base. Don’t panic, it will be apparent in the next step. Just keep reading.

  • Step 8: Dial in the Shot

The Machine that has a pressure gauge helps to know how much the pressure reached. You can adjust the next shot with it. But if your machine is not with a pressure gauge, taste your coffee then set your mind. If the taste of coffee is bitter, then your espresso is over-extracted, so it’s time to get a coarser grind.

Now, this is all up to you. If you like to enjoy pure espresso, you can go for it. Otherwise, you can add milk.

  • Step 9: Adding milk

The Continental electric espresso machine comes with a steam wand. If it doesn’t have any, then make use of a different milk steamer for this step.

Put milk into a milk pitcher made out of stainless steel and turn the streamer wand on. Keep it steam until you are not getting your desired consistency.

Now you have to turn the consistency of the milk into foam, and you can do it by heating it. After that, it’s ready to mix with your coffee. Now it is ready for serving.

Congratulations!!! You have just successfully learned the proper way to make a perfect cup of espresso.

Pro Tips For Perfect Coffee With a Continental Electric Espresso Machine

I’m going to share some tips which will help you to succeed in your first attempt. Such as:

  • Discard the espresso from the portafilter and pull a blank shot.  This helps speed up the process.
  • A perfect tamping means your coffee is even. And it can avoid channeling and inconsistent extraction. Perfect tamping is nothing but the result of more practice.

The more you practice, the better you will be. Choosing a palm tamper over a regular tamper means you are experienced enough.

  • Boil the milk at 50-70° C temperature. To melt the fat into liquid and make a perfect foam, you should maintain the boiling rules.
  • Always maintain a hygienic environment and use clean utensils for good taste.
